Eddie Howe is likely to stay on as Newcastle United head coach next season after talks with the club's Saudi Arabian leadership this week, following a review of the club's poor Premier League campaign [1].

Howe, appointed in November 2021, gave a presentation to the owners and board and faced difficult questions during a thorough analysis of a season that brought 16 league defeats, more than all but Wolves, Burnley and West Ham [1]. Newcastle still remain five points off a European place, reached the EFL Cup semi-finals and made the Champions League knockout stage for the first time [1].

The 47-year-old has also delivered major success since taking over. He led Newcastle to the Carabao Cup title last season, ending a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy, and guided the club into the Champions League in 2023 and again in 2025 [1].

Transfer business has added to the strain. Newcastle sold star forward Alexander Isak to Liverpool and failed to land replacements in bids for Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro, while Howe has worked on recruitment with sporting director Ross Wilson as the club tries to improve data use and widen its scouting network [1].

Howe said after Newcastle's 3-1 win over Brighton, which ended a five-match losing streak, that he wants to do a good job and not let down supporters, players or owners [1].
