Craig Bellamy said he has spent about 18 months as Wales head coach and bases himself mainly at the national development centre at Dragon Park near Newport, while the Football Association of Wales handles most off-field matters from its Vale of Glamorgan headquarters. [1]
The 46-year-old, who gave an in-depth interview to BBC Sport Wales in January 2026, said he is driven by a deep obsession with football and his coaching job. He said: "I do way more than I need to. But what I've learned is to not get caught up on it. It's inevitable changes are going to happen between now and the game, so I try not to let it break my heart when it happens." [1]
Bellamy said he tries to keep a grip on the emotional swings that come with international management. He also said his personality can make everyday life awkward, but football brings him out of his shell. "Socially I can be very awkward – not on purpose – but when it comes to football, I'm really open and happy. If a person wants to stop me in the street and talk football, unfortunately you can't get rid of me," he said. [1]
