Wizards of the Coast is reportedly working on a full remake of Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadow of Amn, involving former BioWare developer and Baldur’s Gate 2 co-lead designer Kevin Martens [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The remake is said to be more extensive than the enhanced editions previously released for Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 by Beamdog [1, 5].

Several sources indicate there is a medium-confidence likelihood that both Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 will be remade concurrently or as a paired project. PC Gamer’s Fraser Brown commented, "If both games are making a comeback – which makes a lot more sense than just the second game, given that it’s a direct continuation of BG1 – this suggests that the remakes are being developed concurrently" [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

Details on gameplay style, combat systems, and release timing have not been disclosed. Early reports suggest the remakes might retain the original real-time-with-pause combat rather than adopting the turn-based system introduced in Baldur’s Gate 3 [1, 3, 4]. This could preserve the classic feel distinct from the newer title.

Kevin Martens, credited as co-lead designer on Baldur’s Gate 2 and current lead on the remake, also worked on Wizards of the Coast’s RPG Exodus at Archetype Entertainment, a game inspired by the Mass Effect series [2, 4, 5].

Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast have not officially commented on the remake reports so far [2, 3, 5]. Meanwhile, Beamdog released a patch in May 2026 for the enhanced editions of Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, maintaining ongoing support for those versions [5].

An HBO TV series continuing the Baldur’s Gate 3 story is also in development, linking renewed interest in the franchise across multiple media [2, 3, 5].
