Windrose has sold over 1 million copies and peaked at more than 200,000 concurrent players on Steam, marking strong early success for developer Kraken Express [1].
Kraken Express has now outlined plans for the game’s first major content update. The highlight will be a new biome called Ashlands, expanding the game world. The developer describes the update as ambitious and says creating it will take significant time [1].
"The roadmap of this update is very high level now," Kraken Express said, adding players can "expect more information to come in a month or two" [1]. The studio estimates "our best bet right now this update will take at least six months to deliver" [1].
Alongside the major update plans, Kraken Express also revealed an upcoming smaller patch. This patch aims to fix connectivity issues, reduce CPU and disk usage, and improve overall performance and stability [1].
The smaller patch will include over 50 fixes and quality-of-life changes, along with around 40 new building pieces, offering immediate improvements while the larger update is in development [1].
Earlier this month, Eurogamer’s Matt Wales praised Windrose’s demo for being "incredibly polished" and thoughtfully designed, highlighting the strong foundation for future content [1].
Kraken Express plans to provide more details about the major update within the next month or two, before the full Ashlands expansion is expected to launch at least six months from now [1].
