Strange Scaffold announced El Paso, Elsewhere 2 at the PC Gaming Show today, unveiling new gameplay features and a 2027 release window for Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S [1, 2, 3].
The sequel follows monster hunter James Savage on a fresh journey after his betrayal by a friend drags him into a supernatural Void to repay a debt to an eldritch horror [1, 2, 3]. Unlike the original’s confined subterranean motel setting, the sequel explores diverse US locations including nightclubs, libraries, and eerie suburban neighborhoods [2, 3].
Gameplay builds on the original’s slow-motion Max Payne-style third-person shooting with new vampiric abilities such as diving, backflips, and blood absorption [1, 2, 3]. The game adds new supernatural enemies including biblically accurate angels and mysterious fights against a character identified only as Frankenstein [1, 3].
El Paso, Elsewhere 2 will feature over 20 levels with fully voiced cutscenes, and an original hip-hop horror rap soundtrack produced by RJ Lake and others [2, 1, 2].
Studio head Xalavier Nelson Jr. said Strange Scaffold nearly closed while making the first game and expressed surprise at getting to make a sequel. He added, "We're going to build on the things that worked in the original game to create exciting gameplay we never could have even imagined before" and said, "I can't wait for folks to see how far James Savage can go" [1, 2].
The original game was released in 2023 to critical acclaim [1, 2, 3]. A film adaptation of El Paso, Elsewhere was announced a few years ago alongside the sequel’s development [3].
El Paso, Elsewhere 2 is scheduled for release in 2027 on Windows PC and Xbox Series X|S [1, 3].
