Sega said it will run a programme of anniversary projects throughout 2026 under a new banner called Sega Universe, with plans to celebrate vintage games and “beloved past works” with “new ways to enjoy them that transcend the world of games.” [1]
The company said the effort carries the motto “No Old, Stay Gold.” [1] Sega named Outrun, Streets of Rage, NiGHTS, SGGG, Rent a Hero, Fantasy Zone, Guardian Heroes, Dynamite Deka and Sakura Wars among the series included in the celebration. [1]
Sega also quoted its website as saying, “Time has passed. With changing eras, some things were lost. Still, there is an impulse that never changed. A glare that never faded. Not to turn that recklessness into nostalgia. Not to say, 'Those were the good old days.' That frenzy is still alive somewhere, even now. Never rusted. Never dulled. So let's do it again. Next time, even bolder.” [1]
The company did not say which specific projects will come from Sega Universe. [1] It also pointed to past teases of new games in the Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe and Shinobi series during its December 2023 Power Surge campaign. [1]
Sega’s anniversary focus lines up with several major milestones in its back catalogue, including the 40th anniversary of Outrun, the 35th anniversary of Streets of Rage, the 30th anniversary of NiGHTS and the 25th anniversary of SGGG. [1] Sega has not set out a release schedule for the individual projects, but said the anniversary programme will run through 2026. [1]
