Patrick Gibson stars as James Bond in IO Interactive's upcoming origin game 007 First Light, and co-star Lennie James said he should be in the running for the next live-action 007 film. James said the people in charge “would be mad not to consider Gibson for the part of Bond in the next live-action film,” and added that Gibson is “fantastic in our version of Bond” and should be a candidate for the role. The comments land as Amazon now controls the James Bond franchise after buying the rights for $20 million last year. Gibson's turn in 007 First Light is set to arrive before any live-action casting decision, with the game due out on 27 May 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. [1]
Martin Emborg, the game's cinematic and narrative director, also praised Gibson's performance, saying the actor is always moving on camera and has a “dynamic” and “impatient” quality that fits Bond's personality. Emborg said that edge is a key part of the character in the game. [1]
007 First Light also features Lennie James as mentor John Greenway, Noémie Nakai as female lead Isola and Lenny Kravitz as antagonist Bawma. Lana Del Rey sings the title song, “First Light,” which she co-wrote with composer David Arnold. [1]
A Nintendo Switch 2 version is delayed until sometime in summer 2026, after the main launch on 27 May. [1]
