Noah Hawley is developing a live-action Far Cry TV series as an anthology, with each season telling a different story rather than adapting any one game, according to remarks he made in May while he was also working on Alien season 2. [1]

Hawley said the franchise's shifting worlds made it a fit for the format. “One thing that really attracted me to the Far Cry franchise is that it is an anthology and every time they release a new game it is a totally different story,” he said, adding that he wanted to build “an anthology game adaptation where each season is a different story about civilized people thrown into situations where they have to become increasingly uncivilized.” [1]

He is writing the scripts and will direct the first two episodes of the series. He is also skipping directing most of Alien season 2 so he can focus on Far Cry. [1]

The show is being filmed at Pinewood Studios in London, where it shares a secondary location with the Alien production. [1]

The approach drew a blunt response from Far Cry creative director Alex Hutchinson, who said he was frustrated by Hawley's comments and preferred older game stories. Hawley countered that video games are often not written for the strongest dramatic storytelling, which shaped his decision to avoid a straight adaptation. [1]

Hawley revealed the project details in an interview in May 2026 while he was still balancing the series with Alien season 2 production. [1]
