NetHack, the open-source roguelike, has received version 5.0.0 while still in active development, with the release listing more than 3,100 fixes and changes. [1]

The release blog post called it “a list of over 3100 fixes and changes,” and the notes said old saves and bones files will not work with the new version. [1]

NetHack can be downloaded from the game’s website for Windows, DOS and Amiga. [1]

The game first appeared in the same year as Lethal Weapon, and it has since earned a place as a historic influence in games. It is also displayed at the Museum of Modern Art alongside SimCity 2000 and Portal. [1]

The release notes also flagged some of the rule changes in the new build, including “pets avoid eating shapeshifter corpses unless starving or nearly feral” and “Demon lords hate Demonbane.” [1]

PC Gamer said the 5.0.0 release had already happened yesterday. [1]
