Krafton has started hiring for key development roles on Tera 2, a sequel to the original Tera MMORPG that shut down in 2022, according to job postings on the company’s website through Bluehole Studio. [1]
The postings seek a senior client programmer and a client programmer lead. Krafton says the new game is being built with Unreal Engine 5 and will keep the original MMO’s open action combat style. [1]
Tera was one of Krafton’s better-known early games and helped popularize action-style combat in MMORPGs. Krafton now publishes titles including PUBG, The Callisto Protocol and Subnautica 2, but the company has also kept interest in a larger MMO project alive inside the group. Chairman Chang Byung-gyu has remained interested in having a major MMO under Krafton’s portfolio. [1]
The hiring comes as live service games remain difficult for studios of all sizes. Other MMORPG projects, including Amazon Game Studio’s Lord of the Rings MMO and a Horizon MMO, have been cancelled recently, while long-running games such as Old School RuneScape and Eve Online continue to perform well in the market. [1]
Krafton’s CEO has previously described the company as an “AI-first company,” but generative AI is not mentioned in the current Tera 2 job postings. [1]
The original Tera servers closed in 2022. Krafton’s job listings are the clearest public sign so far that the sequel is now in active recruitment. [1]
