Kotaku reported on May 2 that Saros, a game by Housemarque, has become the subject of a misinformation campaign featuring a doctored or AI-generated image falsely linked to the game [1].

The misleading post alleged a storyline where a man is betrayed and left by his wife for a lesbian woman. One commenter on X described it as “a storyline involving a cucked man being betrayed and left by his wife for a lesbian woman” [1].

The fake image showed characters Nitya and Kayla embracing, but Kotaku said they never appear together on screen in the game. Junkster, who first posted the false screenshot on X, said, “This ‘Screenshot’ from SAROS is 100% fake and AI! it’s not in the game nor do nitya and Kayla even cross paths ever. What a disgrace to spread this around doing the devs at Housemarque a disservice lying on their beautiful story” [1].

In Saros, the character Arjun searches for Nitya on the planet Carcosa during the game’s events. The game reveals Arjun was an alcoholic, emotionally abusive partner who cheated on Nitya. Nitya left Arjun before the events of the game because the relationship was toxic and she sought a better life [1].

Later in the game timeline, Nitya finds a new female lover while living with the first Echelon crew on Carcosa [1].

The false narrative conflates events and characters in Saros, obscuring the actual story's themes about abuse and recovery. Housemarque has not publicly commented on the misinformation.

The controversy began with the May 2 X post calling out the AI-generated screenshot. Kotaku’s reporting debunks the false claims, clarifying what is and isn’t part of Saros’ story [1].
