Frontier Developments confirmed it is developing a new construction and management simulation (CMS) game in the Planet series. The game will not be a sequel and features a completely new setting, distinct from Frontier’s previous titles Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster [1, 2, 3].

The company’s head of player engagement, Richard Stephenson, first revealed the project on Discord in mid-2026. He said the new game will retain the series’ focus on creativity, management, and meaningful simulation while exploring an unfamiliar world for Frontier. "We've started work on a brand-new Planet Game franchise, which has all the familiarity you love about the Planet series, but a completely new setting for us than Planet Coaster or Planet Zoo," Stephenson said [1].

The announcement was also included in Frontier’s financial earnings report for the first quarter of 2026, which confirmed the game is planned for release during the company’s fiscal year 2028, running from May 2027 to May 2028 [1, 2].

On June 8, 2026, Frontier filed trademarks for nine potential Planet game titles. These included Planet Resort, Planet Festival, Planet Farm, Planet Vacation, Planet Dinosaur, Planet Prehistoric, Planet Fantasy, Planet Mythical Creatures, and Planet Dragon [3]. Fans and industry commentators have speculated that Planet Resort and Planet Festival are plausible themes for the new title, though Frontier has not confirmed the final concept [3].

Frontier’s new Planet game will continue its tradition of delivering deep CMS gameplay with new creative opportunities and management challenges within a fresh thematic setting that distinguishes it from its predecessors [1, 2, 3]. The company has not shared details on specific gameplay elements or the exact release date beyond the fiscal year window.

The game is scheduled for launch anywhere between May 2027 and May 2028, marking Frontier’s next major step in its Planet series following the success of Planet Zoo and Planet Coaster.
