Square Enix released a free demo for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S on 2026-04-28. The demo covers the first 2 of 14 chapters, and save progress will carry over to the full game when it launches on both platforms [1].

Players who have demo save data on the device at launch can claim bonus items, including a "kupo charm" and a "survival set". The demo is 45GB on Nintendo Switch 2 and 91GB on Xbox Series X/S [1].

Eurogamer said the Switch 2 version looks technically impressive, even with some rough edges. The site said the version it played in handheld mode showed texture pop-in and limited graphics options, with settings reduced to Brightness and HDR Luminance [2]. Eurogamer also said the 30fps frame rate "feels just as at home on Switch 2 as it ever did on PS5. Somehow," [1].

Eurogamer's hands-on demo took place near the start of the game in Kalm and lasted about 30 minutes. The outlet said earlier this year that it had already been impressed by the Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake [2].

Square Enix has set 2026-06-03 as the launch date for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S [1].
