Capcom cut 1 entire chapter from Resident Evil Requiem before the game’s release, director Koshi Nakanishi said. [1]
Nakanishi said the studio treated the game’s development as a process of selection and elimination, with early rough-cut revisions sometimes removing whole chapters. He compared the work to editing text or video and said, “Subtraction really is crucial.” [1]
He said Capcom does not make such cuts in the final stages of development. Instead, the team repeatedly revises the game early on and then decides what stays based on whether it delivers the intended user experience. [1]
Eurogamer reported that Capcom was also pleased with the game’s critical and commercial response after launch, including reactions from players, streams, clips and online discussion. The outlet said Resident Evil Requiem is a new entry in the series’ three-decade run, with a brand-new character and the return of an older one for closure. [2]
Capcom’s next public focus is the post-launch response to Resident Evil Requiem, after the company’s positive reaction to its performance and the online chatter around the game. [2]
