Call of Duty: Warzone will stop working on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One when Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 launches in October 2026.

Starting June 4, Warzone will be removed from PS4 and Xbox One storefronts, preventing new downloads on those consoles. Existing players can continue playing until Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 arrives, but the game will be unplayable afterward on those platforms [1, 2, 3, 4].

On June 25, the in-game store on PS4 and Xbox One will be disabled, removing microtransactions and Call of Duty Points bundle purchases from those consoles [1, 2, 3, 4]. Activision clarified, "Certain items, such as Call of Duty Points bundle purchases, will no longer be available on those platforms" as part of the transition [4].

Modern Warfare 4 will launch only on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23, 2026. It will not be released for PS4 or Xbox One [1, 2, 3, 4]. Warzone on supported platforms will integrate Modern Warfare 4 seasonal content and progression starting with Season 1 [1, 3, 4].

Players who link their game accounts to Activision accounts will retain their progress and unlocks when migrating to newer consoles or PC [4]. Despite Warzone's shutdown, all previous Call of Duty games will remain online playable on PS4 and Xbox One [4].

The PS4 and Xbox One consoles are nearly 13 years old, and the decision to end Warzone support reflects the shift to current generation hardware [3]. Microsoft holds a 10-year agreement with Nintendo that allows Modern Warfare 4 to appear on the Switch 2 for the first time [2].

Recent $150 price increases for PS5 and Xbox Series X may make the timing challenging for players still on older consoles [2].

The key dates are June 4, when Warzone downloads will be removed from PS4 and Xbox One, June 25, when the in-game store shuts down on those platforms, and October 23, when Modern Warfare 4 launches and Warzone becomes unplayable on last-gen consoles [1, 2, 3, 4].
