Bloober Team, known for the Silent Hill 2 remake and Cronos: The New Dawn, announced on June 6 the development of Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a new game set in the Star Trek universe [1, 2, 3]. The game was revealed by Bloober Team alongside Paramount Games Studio [1, 2, 3].

Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is described as a sci-fi psychological thriller with elements of psychological horror and action-adventure gameplay [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. It stars Ro Laren, the Bajoran Starfleet officer from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Picard, played and voiced by Michelle Forbes, the original actress [1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 5].

The story follows Ro after she crash-lands on a distant, hostile planet described as a spaceship graveyard overtaken by a corrupting alien entity or mysterious consciousness [1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 5]. Players will explore the corrupted surface, confront twisted creatures and hostile ecosystems, and unravel psychological horror and mysteries connected to Ro’s past and the alien presence [1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 5].

Gameplay centers on third-person action-adventure mechanics including exploration, puzzle-solving, combat, and cinematic storytelling [7, 6]. Signature Star Trek technology such as the tricorder and phaser will be used for scanning, solving puzzles, and combat encounters [7, 6]. The game targets mature players, featuring intense violence, bloody scenes, and psychological horror themes [7, 6, 5].

Shawn Kittelsen, head of creative and production at Paramount Games Studio, said, "We have full confidence in Bloober’s ability to deliver a game that does justice to the Star Trek name while bringing something bold and new to the beloved franchise" [1]. Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team, added, "As lifelong fans of science fiction, Star Trek has always held a special place in our hearts. By combining that passion with what we do best, horror, we’ve partnered with Paramount to create something truly unique: a new adventure set in a beloved universe, enriched with our own signature layer of dark, psychological thriller" [1].

The game is planned for release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC via Steam, and possibly Nintendo Switch 2 [2, 7, 4, 6, 5]. The Steam page for Star Trek: Shadow Frontier went live in June 2026, providing the first official details to the public [6, 5].
