An updated May 2026 travel adapter guide recommends universal adapters for travelers heading to multiple countries and says voltage converters are usually best avoided because they are large, heavy, expensive and unreliable. [1]
The guide says there are 15 plug types in use worldwide. Type A and B are common in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Japan. Type C is widely used across Europe, South America and Asia. Type E and F are used in parts of Europe, Type G in the UK and Ireland, and Type I in Australia, New Zealand, China and Argentina. [1]
It also flags countries that often need specific plug adapters not usually covered by universal products. Those include India, which uses Type D, Israel, which uses Type H, and South Africa, which uses Type M or N. [1]
For frequent flyers and travelers with more than one destination, the guide recommends universal travel adapters that can handle several plug standards in one device. It says many also include multiple USB ports, letting users charge several devices from one outlet at the same time. [1]
The May 2026 update also refreshed the product list, adding Ceptics and Tessan, plus chargers from Statik, D-Link, Epicka, Aunno and UGreen. It removed older devices, reorganized the content and updated prices. [1]
