Sonic Fire Tech demonstrated its AI-driven infrasound fire suppression system on May 1 in Concord, California, extinguishing a kitchen fire before firefighters and officials from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and CAL FIRE. [1]
The company says the acoustic method works by vibrating oxygen molecules away from the fuel source to stop combustion. It is pitching the system as a replacement for traditional sprinklers, which can leave behind major water damage. [1]
Geoff Bruder, the startup’s co-founder and CEO, said the team had found a way to scale the system beyond a handheld device. “We were able to not just point-and-shoot like a fire extinguisher; we figured out how to run it through ducting and distribute it like a sprinkler system,” Bruder said. [1]
Sonic Fire Tech says it is the first company trying to commercialize acoustic fire suppression. It is targeting commercial and residential customers, including data centers and California homes built since 2011, where sprinklers are required. [1]
The startup is also planning a backpack version for wildland firefighters, extending the technology beyond buildings. The company had already toured Southern California to show the system before the Concord event. [1]
