Rivian is rolling out an AI-powered in-vehicle voice assistant in its latest software update, with availability for Gen 1 and Gen 2 owners who have an active Connect+ subscription or trial. [1, 2, 3]

The assistant can be triggered with a steering-wheel control or by saying "Hey Rivian," and s1 says it can also be activated through an infotainment-screen icon and the phrase "OK, Rivian." Rivian says the system can handle vehicle settings, climate, navigation, media, messaging, calling, troubleshooting and other hands-free tasks. [1, 2, 3]

The company says the assistant is integrated with Google Calendar and can read, summarize and manage calendar events. Rivian describes the system as an in-house AI foundation called Rivian Unified Intelligence, with third-party models used for grounded data, natural conversation and reasoning. [2, 3]

Rivian first announced the assistant at its AI and Autonomy Day last year, with s3 saying that was in December 2025. The assistant is also slated for Rivian’s upcoming R2 SUV, according to s3. [2, 3]

Rivian’s Connect+ service costs $15 a month or $150 a year, and the software update is version 2026.15. [1, 2, 3]
