Meta Platforms is teaming with Reliance Industries to build its first AI data center in India, located in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The facility will have a capacity of 168 megawatts and is expected to be completed within two years, with an option to expand further [1, 2, 3, 4].

Meta will lease the data center capacity from Reliance, continuing and deepening their strategic collaboration that began with a $5.7 billion investment in Reliance’s Jio Platforms in 2020. The partnership also includes a $100 million joint venture on AI solutions launched last year [1, 2, 3, 4].

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the Jamnagar facility "will help us scale our AI infrastructure globally while deepening our long-term investment in India’s economy" [1, 4]. Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani called the project "a transformative moment for India's digital infrastructure" [4].

The Jamnagar site also hosts India’s largest single-site oil refinery, part of Reliance’s businesses [1, 3]. Meta is separately contracting about 837 megawatts of renewable energy from Indian clean energy firms like Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions and Fourth Partner Energy. The renewable energy deals caused Clean Max Enviro Energy’s shares to rise more than 15% [1, 3, 4].

India has rapidly become a leading hub for AI infrastructure investments. Amazon and Microsoft’s combined investments in India reached about $52 billion in 2026. Installed data center capacity in India grew from roughly 375 megawatts in 2020 to 1.5 gigawatts by 2025. Industry estimates project capacity to exceed 7 to 8 gigawatts by 2030 [1, 2, 3, 4].

Other major investments include OpenAI’s partnership with Tata Group on a 100 MW+ facility and Blackstone-backed AirTrunk’s plan to invest $30 billion for 5 gigawatts by 2030 [1, 2]. India offers incentives such as up to 20 years of tax exemption on foreign cloud services sold overseas if workloads run from Indian data centers, attracting hyperscalers [2, 4].

Meta’s expanded collaboration with Reliance covers infrastructure, enterprise AI solutions, and open-source AI models tailored for Indian users [2, 4]. Meta also aims to power 100% of its global operations with clean and renewable energy [4].

The Jamnagar AI data center is set for delivery by mid-2027, marking a key milestone in Meta’s ongoing investments in India’s digital economy [1, 2, 3, 4].
