Instagram is testing a new optional account-level label that lets creators identify themselves as "AI creators" on their profiles, posts and Reels. The label reads: "This profile posts content that was generated or modified with AI." [1]
Meta said it is using the labels to increase AI transparency on Instagram. The company is encouraging creators who frequently post AI content to use the new tag to build trust with their audience. [1]
The label appears prominently on creators' profiles and alongside their posts and Reels. But it is not required. Meta has not turned it on by default and there is no enforcement for creators who choose not to use it. [1]
Many users will still see the older, vaguer "AI info" badges or no label at all. Meta's Oversight Board has said the company cannot reliably detect all AI-generated content on Instagram, which helps explain why the labels remain optional. [1]
For now, the test gives some creators a clearer way to self-identify their use of AI while leaving the broader labeling system unchanged. Meta has not said when or whether it will expand the feature beyond the test. [1]
