Apple plans to unveil a major overhaul of its Siri virtual assistant as part of iOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote on June 8-9, 2026 [1, 2]. The new Siri will include a chatbot-style app resembling ChatGPT, supporting chat history, voice and text input, and photo or document uploads [3, 4, 2].

Users will be able to invoke Siri by saying “Hey Siri,” long-pressing the power button, or swiping down from the top center of the screen to open a new AI-powered search and chat interface [3, 4, 2]. Results and responses will appear as rich text cards that pop out of the Dynamic Island interface, allowing users to swipe down further to access a conversation within the revamped Siri app, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman [2, 5].

Apple is integrating new AI features across its Camera and Photos apps, including a dedicated Siri mode in Camera and AI editing tools in Photos [3, 2, 5]. The company is working with Google’s Gemini AI model, optimizing a lightweight version to run locally on devices while sending some queries to Google Cloud’s Nvidia-powered servers [4, 6].

The new Siri app will also allow users to access third-party AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini through the interface [4, 2, 5]. Notification Center access will shift to a swipe from the top-left corner due to the new Siri gestures [2, 5].

Apple is testing multiple versions of the redesign internally before the public launch. Gurman noted, “The company often tests multiple designs of features internally, and the final version set to be introduced to the public in June could differ” [5].

iOS 27 with the new Siri features could reach customers as early as September 2026 [5]. Meanwhile, a $250 million settlement related to Siri has been delayed amid these changes [5].
