Houston coach Willie Fritz submitted a nomination letter for former Cougars quarterback Case Keenum to get him on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot for the first time. [1]

Fritz called Keenum “one of the most decorated, respected and accomplished players in the history of college football” and said, “I think it would be inappropriate for this sport's leader in so many categories to be left out of the Hall of Fame.” He also said, “He is absolutely deserving of this honor.” [1]

Keenum is the NCAA’s all-time leading passer with 19,217 yards, built over five seasons at Houston from 2007-11. [1]

The Hall of Fame’s rules require a player to be 10 years past retirement and within 50 years of his last collegiate game. Keenum is described as ineligible under the current criteria because he was never awarded All-American status by one of the five recognized outlets. [1]

Keenum’s case now goes to the ballot process after Fritz’s submission, with the nomination letter serving as the next step in his push for Hall of Fame consideration. [1]
