Marco Bezzecchi, 27, was banned from racing at the Czech MotoGP on June 21 after slapping a track marshal following a crash in Saturday's sprint race at Brno [1, 2, 3, 4]. After crashing in the sprint, Bezzecchi pushed and slapped a marshal as they tried to recover his bike stuck in the gravel trap [1, 3, 5]. The MotoGP stewards ruled his conduct violated Article 3.3.2.2, calling it prejudicial to the sport [3, 4].

Aprilia Racing appealed the ban soon after the incident, but the appeal was rejected and the team decided not to pursue the matter further [2, 5]. On Sunday before the main race, Bezzecchi apologized in person to the marshal, offering his racing gloves and an Aprilia team shirt as a sign of remorse [2, 3]. Marshal Ladislav said, "I mean, he was surely stressed, and I understand his situation... It really matters to me that he apologised" [2].

Seven-time world champion Marc Marquez won the Czech GP race Sunday, overtaking teammate Francesco Bagnaia late in the contest to claim victory [1, 6]. Ai Ogura finished second after passing Bagnaia, who took third place on the podium [1, 6]. Marquez said, "It's a super important win, something special. I never give up, but I was suffering a lot, I was empty. It was the longest six laps of the year and I am super happy" [1].

Marquez's win cut Bezzecchi's championship points lead to 40, with Bezzecchi still leading on 180 points [1, 2, 5]. Teammate Jorge Martin was second with 165 points after finishing ninth in the race, eight points behind Bezzecchi [1, 3, 6]. Fabio Di Giannantonio held third place overall with 146 points [3].

The suspension ruling means Bezzecchi will miss competing Sunday, further tightening the championship race. The next MotoGP event will test how this affects the fight for the title.
