President Donald Trump told Congress on Friday that the Iran war had been terminated after a U.S.-Iran ceasefire, saying there had been no exchange of fire between U.S. forces and Iran since April 7. [1]
In the letter, Trump wrote that "the hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have been terminated" and said the fighting stopped because of the ceasefire. [1]
But the report said the conflict is not clearly over. It pointed to an ongoing U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the continued presence of U.S. forces near Iran. [1]
The dispute comes as the War Powers Resolution clock has already run for 60 days, with a possible 30-day extension mentioned in the report. It said the Trump administration has not yet pursued that extension. [1]
Trump's letter said the United States had not traded fire with Iran since April 7. [1]
The report also said Friday was the deadline referenced for Trump to wind down U.S. military operations around Iran. [1]
