Mechanism, known for accessories for handheld gaming devices, released its first accessory for Valve’s new Steam Controller on May 4 in the US. [1] The Basegrip attaches the Steam Controller to smartphones and other mounts Mechanism already offers, enabling users to magnetically connect a phone atop the controller. [1]

The Basegrip allows the Steam Controller to interface with existing Mechanism mounts. Mechanism said the controller does not yet work with all iOS or Android devices, noting, "the controller doesn't work across all of iOS or Android yet." [1]

Valve launched the Steam Controller on May 4 and said it is designed solely for use with Steam and the Steam Link app. [1] Mechanism priced the Basegrip at $9, with discounts available when bundled with other accessories. [1]

In addition to the Basegrip, Mechanism announced it will ship a Steam Controller Dock in June 2026. Interested users can join a waitlist to preorder the dock. [1]

The simultaneous launch of the Basegrip and Valve’s Steam Controller offers users a new option for mobile gaming setups on May 4, with the dock expected to arrive next month. [1]
