The Trump administration has stalled approvals for about 165 onshore wind projects on private land in the United States, as the Department of Defense reviews them for national security concerns and possible radar interference. [1]

The affected projects include wind farms that were waiting for final sign-off, others still in negotiations, and some that would not normally need Pentagon oversight. [1]

Developers have faced setbacks since August 2025, according to the report, with missing communications, canceled meetings and claims that the department stopped processing applications. [1]

About 35 projects were awaiting DoD sign-off after negotiations, while 30 had verbal approval but still needed written confirmation. Another about 50 were in negotiations, and 50 more had previously been seen as likely to pose no risk. [1]

The report said the Pentagon’s role has expanded the reach of the delays beyond projects that would usually face such review. [1]

The next point of pressure is the continued DoD review, which will determine whether the stalled projects can move ahead. [1]
