Amazon on Tuesday launched Amazon Supply Chain Services, opening its freight, distribution, fulfillment and parcel shipping capabilities to businesses of all types and sizes, not just Amazon sellers. [1]
The company said the service is built on logistics systems it originally developed for internal use and will be offered to companies in healthcare, automotive, manufacturing and retail. Amazon said the service debuts with Procter & Gamble, 3M, Lands' End and American Eagle Outfitters as early customers. [1]
Amazon said its supply chain has long been a "differentiator" for its core shopping experience and fast delivery, calling it "the reason we could offer fast, dependable delivery that nobody else could." [1]
The company is entering a market it described as a third-party logistics sector worth more than $1.3 trillion. The expansion could put Amazon in competition with established carriers and logistics firms including USPS and DHL Group. Amazon also said it is now America's largest parcel carrier by volume and has provided fulfillment services for more than 20 years. [1]
Amazon did not give a separate rollout schedule beyond the announcement, but the service is already being introduced to the first group of customers named by the company. [1]
