A year after Singapore's May 3, 2025 general election, the People's Action Party remains in power with 87 MPs and all of its constituencies intact. Its national vote share rose to 65.57% from 61.23% in GE2020. [1]
Only the Workers' Party remained in Parliament after the election, while the Progress Singapore Party lost its presence. Observers said clashes between the PAP and the WP have centred more on race and religion in politics than on policy disputes, with Felix Tan describing the atmosphere as "somewhat contained". [1]
Lawmakers have still passed a series of major measures over the past year. Parliament approved a Budget aimed at pushing national artificial intelligence adoption, laws to strengthen coastal protection and legislation against online harms. [1]
The tone in the House has eased since sittings resumed in September 2025, observers said. Inderjit Singh said, "The WP continues to take a measured approach while in the past, the PSP was a lot more aggressive in challenging the Government." [1]
External pressures have also moved higher on the political agenda in recent months. An energy crisis linked to conflict in the Middle East has lifted petrol and food prices, adding a new strain as Parliament enters the second year after GE2025. [1]
