Singapore’s Land Transport Authority is modifying some bus stops to support more than 500 public buses with three doors, but says not every stop can be changed because of site constraints. [1]

At some stops, the third door is not used for alighting because it may open directly onto a road, grass patch or other obstacle. Bus captains have been told to advise passengers to use the second door instead where the rear exit is unsafe. [1]

The issue has already affected stops such as the East Coast Apartments bus stop on Telok Kurau Road, where the third door opens onto a road, and a stop near Seletar West Park Connector, where metal beam barriers limit how the door can open. [1]

Singapore’s three-door buses first entered service in 2017, and the current fleet includes 440 single-deck buses and 100 double-deck buses with the design. [1]

In 2025, notices were placed on third doors to tell passengers the rear door may not open at some stops, after some commuters expressed confusion. [1]

The fleet is set to grow again from the end of 2026, when 300 more three-door electric double-deck buses will be rolled out progressively. [1]
