New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is in Singapore from May 3 to May 5 for his second official visit, meeting Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Speaker Seah Kian Peng. [1]
Luxon and Wong are due to hold the inaugural Annual Leaders’ Meeting on May 4, deliver remarks at the Singapore-New Zealand Leadership Forum opening ceremony and witness the signing of an Agreement on Trade in Essential Supplies. Wong will also host a lunch for Luxon that day. [1]
The visit comes after the two leaders launched the New Zealand-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2025 during Wong’s trip to New Zealand. Luxon first made an official visit to Singapore in April 2024. [1]
Luxon and Wong last met in November 2025 on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, and spoke again by phone in March 2026 about Middle East developments. [1]
Luxon is also scheduled to visit Jurong Island, Changi Naval Base and Gardens by the Bay during the trip. [1]
Trade ties between the two countries are already deep. In 2025, New Zealand was Singapore’s 31st-largest goods trading partner, while Singapore was New Zealand’s 9th-largest export destination and 6th-largest source of imports. [1]
