Construction work at the Chong Pang City integrated development was suspended after a metal bar from the site fell through the roof of a nearby Block 103 Yishun Ring Road HDB block in Yishun. The four-storey block stands near the nine-storey development, which sits on a 0.9ha site and is due to open in 2027. [1]
No one was injured and there was no damage to the interior of the flats, authorities said. The construction site was issued a stop-work order, and residents can still use the common corridor and shared areas except for the affected section, which has been cordoned off. [1]
A professional engineer assessed the damage and said the overall roof structure remained intact and safe. The main contractor, Rich Construction Company, is working with the authorities to determine what caused the incident. [1]
Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam called it a “freak accident” and said it was “not a HDB roof problem”; he also said the bar had “slipped in an unexpected way.” In a Facebook post on May 3, he said temporary repair works had been done and that he would visit residents. [1]
The incident happened on May 2 during dismantling works at an upper floor of the development. The Singapore Land Authority said on May 3 that the worksite had been suspended after the incident and that it had assessed the damage and safety measures. [1]
