Adam Hashim, 42, pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving without due care after hitting a kerb on Upper Bukit Timah Road early last July. He was sentenced on May 22, 2026, to four weeks in jail and fined $12,000. He will be disqualified from driving for 60 months starting from his release date [1, 2, 3, 4].
On the night of July 9, 2025, Adam consumed about two pints of beer at Chijmes with clients, stopping drinking after midnight. Around 2:30 a.m. on July 10, while driving from Chijmes to his office in Woodlands, he lost control and struck a kerb at Upper Bukit Timah Road [1, 2, 3, 4].
A Traffic Police officer found that Adam smelled of alcohol at the scene. He failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 45 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath. This exceeded the legal limit of 35 micrograms [1, 2, 3, 4]. No injuries or property damage occurred.
Adam has a history of traffic offences. In 2008 and 2010, he was convicted of drink driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without due care or reasonable consideration [1, 2, 3, 4]. The police prosecutor cited his poor driving record and sought enhanced punishment [1, 2, 3, 4].
Adam’s defence lawyer, Eric Liew, said his client had matured since earlier convictions and is not a habitual drink driver. Liew noted, "He is now in his forties. The long passage of time is significant. It demonstrates that the accused is not a habitual drink driver, nor is this a case of persistent or repeated disregard for road safety." [1]
Adam’s jail term will serve before his driving disqualification period begins and lasts 60 months from release [1, 2, 3, 4].
