The Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) announced it will extend tuberculosis screening at Heartbeat@Bedok through May 8 due to a strong public response and demand for testing [1].
As of 6 p.m. on May 4, a total of 541 people had been screened at Heartbeat@Bedok, with another 167 screened at SATA CommHealth Bedok Clinic on May 2 and May 4. Across both sites, 708 individuals have undergone screening, including over 400 who came voluntarily and 280 required as part of mandatory screening [1].
The one-day extension aims to accommodate an additional 500 people needing testing. Screening slots for the extension will prioritize tenants and workers at Heartbeat@Bedok, Block 216 Bedok Food Centre & Market, and Singapore Pools Bedok betting centre, where screening remains compulsory [1].
Free tuberculosis screening is also available by appointment at SATA CommHealth Bedok Clinic and the National Tuberculosis Screening Centre from May 4 through June 5 [1].
Epidemiological investigations from January 2023 to February 2026 identified 13 genetically linked tuberculosis cases clustered in three groups. Of these, seven have completed treatment, five are currently undergoing treatment, and one died from causes unrelated to tuberculosis. All patients began treatment promptly and are no longer infectious [1].
Tuberculosis is an airborne disease that requires prolonged close contact for transmission. It has a long latent period but is both treatable and curable with medication. Early detection through screening helps prevent further spread of the disease [1].
