Alex Wang Xiang Yi, 30, was sentenced on May 21, 2026, to 13 months and 16 weeks in jail for cheating Grab of $8,964.90 by exploiting a loophole in the GrabExpress courier service between May and June 2025 [1, 2].

Wang faked 667 delivery attempts by falsely marking parcels as returned on the Grab app without actually making deliveries [1, 2]. He also introduced the loophole to other Grab drivers involved in the scheme [1, 2]. A total of five drivers participated, but only four—including Wang—were charged on November 28, 2025, for causing over $58,000 in losses to Grab through 5,540 fraudulent transactions [1, 2]. The fifth driver was not charged [1, 2].

The court heard that the drivers abused the lack of cross-checks on profile photos by creating multiple Grab accounts under different names but using their own photos. Deputy Public Prosecutor Jheong Siew Yin said, "These drivers also exploited the fact that Grab did not conduct cross-checks of the profile photos of Grab drivers." [1]

Wang pleaded guilty to 14 charges, including cheating Grab and unrelated traffic offenses [1, 2]. He will be disqualified from driving for two years starting from the date of his release [1, 2].

Earlier sentencing included Dzulqarnain Muhamad, jailed for seven months in March 2026, and Loh Jing Jie, jailed for 10 weeks in April 2026, for their roles in the same scheme [1, 2]. The case of the fourth charged man, Lee Yong Ze, remains before the courts as of June 2026 [1, 2].
