Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi highlighted the critical role of trust and security in Malaysia's digital ecosystem during the MyDigital ID Memorandum of Understanding event on May 4, themed "Powering Trusted Access Across Malaysia’s Digital Ecosystem" [1].
He described the current phase of digital transformation as "continuous, fast and unexpected," saying "We are living in a time where change is no longer incremental" [1]. He stressed the importance of trust in digital systems: "The fundamental question is whether people can trust digital systems. Without trust, digital progress will be hindered" [1].
Malaysia is enhancing its digital infrastructure, which has become the backbone of national efficiency and global competitiveness, through initiatives such as the MyDigital ID platform [1]. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, security and identity verification must be treated as a national responsibility based on governance, accountability, and integrity [1].
MyDigital ID has shifted from traditional password authentication to stronger cryptographic methods to ensure safer and faster interactions within Malaysia's borderless and fast-moving digital space, which risks online fraud, identity theft, and data misuse [1]. MyDigital ID chairman Datuk Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin said, "Security remains the system’s core principle" [1].
The Malaysian government aims to build a trusted digital ecosystem to support the country's ongoing digital transformation. The MyDigital ID platform is a cornerstone of this strategy, enabling secure user identification and strengthening online trust [1].
