Revealtek Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian sports-technology firm, has developed the world's first AI-powered instant review system (IRS) for badminton to receive official approval from the Badminton World Federation (BWF) [1].
The system, called Reveal Lens, was deployed at the PETRONAS National Under-18 Badminton Championship held in Selangor from April 22 to 27, 2026, allowing players to challenge line calls through AI-powered cameras and receive decisions within seconds based on match footage [1]. It was also used earlier in April at the Affin 100Plus Junior Elite Tournament (Leg 2 — Group B) [1].
Reveal Lens is among only four systems worldwide approved by the BWF for instant line call reviews [1]. The system can be set up fully wirelessly in under an hour, making live officiating technology accessible to tournaments without extensive infrastructure [1].
According to Revealtek CEO and co-founder Nizam Mohamed, comparable review systems at international events can incur operational costs exceeding US$100,000 per tournament. He said, "Until now, this level of officiating technology has largely been limited to international tournaments with significant resources. With Reveal Lens, a junior tournament in Selangor can have the same officiating standard as a world-tour event in Denmark and we welcome organisations ready to take that step with us" [1].
The rollout of Reveal Lens at national and junior tournaments signals broader accessibility to advanced officiating technology. The system’s wireless setup and low operational cost aim to benefit badminton events with limited budgets.
The Malaysian launch was reported on April 30, 2026 [1].
