UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on 2026-05-02 that criticism of Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun by the party's state wings was a personal opinion, not an official UMNO stance. [1]

He said the Youth, Women and Puteri wings of UMNO Negeri Sembilan had expressed loss of confidence in Aminuddin's leadership after citing dissatisfaction with his handling of state issues, including matters tied to traditional institutions and administrative harmony. [1]

Zahid said Barisan Nasional remained formally committed to backing the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan, in line with the highest-level party decisions. He also said UMNO members were expected to respect that position even if some at state level held different views. [1]

"On the issue of loss of confidence, that is their opinion, but we are confident that the presence of BN State Assembly members in the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan is a party decision and it must be respected," Zahid said. [1]

His statement came as party pressure from the state wings contrasted with the national leadership's line on cooperation with the Unity Government. The formal BN position in Negeri Sembilan remains unchanged. [1]
