The dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly for a snap election is the absolute prerogative of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the Sultan of Johor, sources confirmed today [1, 2, 3]. The timing of such an election will be advised to the Sultan by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi [1, 2, 3].

Speculation about the election sparked after rumours circulated of a special assembly sitting planned for June 24, but Johor assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk Samsolbari Jamali stated the meeting date is "not confirmed" and the matter remains unsettled [2]. There have been no official discussions regarding the election timing at the Barisan Nasional (BN) party headquarters or its central leadership level [1, 2, 3].

Barisan Nasional remains confident that the Menteri Besar will consult the central leadership after receiving royal consent. This consultation will allow the party to plan preparations for the snap election [1, 2, 3]. BN plans to contest all 56 state seats in any upcoming Johor election, reiterating its strong presence in the state [1, 3]. In the 2022 Johor state election, BN won 40 seats, Pakatan Harapan captured 12, Perikatan Nasional 3, and Muda 1 [1, 3].

Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan urged all parties to handle political developments with maturity and prudence to protect public well-being and avoid unsettling the people. Speaking at the SMK Seri Sendayan Athletics Championship on June 20, Hasan said, "It could be soon, it could be later, that depends on the menteri besar's discretion. So far, however, there have been no official discussions at the party headquarters or central leadership level." He added, "We do not want the people to feel uneasy. All decisions or actions must be done properly because our purpose as a government is to help the people, not to burden them" [1, 2, 3].

Meanwhile, the government has approved RM135 million to build two new schools, one secondary and one primary, in Bandar Sri Sendayan to address overcrowding issues [1, 3].

Johor’s current state government term is scheduled to end in April 2027 [2]. Until then, any snap election remains at the discretion of Sultan Ibrahim based on advice from the Menteri Besar.
