Mohamad Fawyas Yasin, 27, a Rohingya labourer, pleaded not guilty today to robbing national badminton legend Datuk Mohamad Razif Mohd Sidek at knifepoint at his residence in Jalan Damansara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail on May 19, 2026 [1, 2, 3].
The alleged robbery took place around 12:20 pm and involved the theft of belongings valued at RM60,000 [1, 2, 3]. The charge was filed under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years, along with a possible fine or whipping if convicted [1, 2, 3].
During the bail hearing, it was noted that Yasin’s United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card had expired [1, 2, 3]. Deputy public prosecutor J. Banusha opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the offence and the risk of flight because the accused has no fixed address. The prosecutor also raised concern that Yasin knows the addresses of the victim and witnesses, which could lead to possible harassment. "If bail is granted and the accused fails to attend court proceedings, it would be difficult to trace him as he does not have a fixed address. There is also a risk because the accused knows the victim’s address and could potentially harass him," Banusha said [1].
The defence lawyer, Mansheel Kaur, urged for a minimal bail amount. She said Yasin earns RM50 per day working as a labourer and is the sole breadwinner for his unemployed wife and 10-month-old child. Kaur added that Yasin has lived in the country for 15 years and his UNHCR card is in the process of being renewed [2, 3].
Sessions Court Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtaruddin denied bail, citing the lack of a valid UNHCR card as a reason for refusal [1, 2, 3].
The case is scheduled for mention again on July 14, 2026 [1, 2, 3].
