The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission warned on 2026-05-03 against producing or sharing race, religion and royalty, or 3R, content that is provocative, insulting or incites hatred. It said such material could trigger public tension. [1]
MCMC said it will take strict enforcement action against individuals or groups found producing or circulating prohibited 3R content. It said it will work with the Royal Malaysia Police and other agencies to monitor, investigate and act on violations. [1]
The commission said offenders may be prosecuted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. That section carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, a prison term of up to 2 years, or both. [1]
MCMC also said it will take action against platform providers that fail to cooperate with enforcement and reminded them of their legal responsibility. [1]
The statement, issued on 2026-05-03, set out the commission's warning and the legal consequences it says can follow from prohibited 3R content. [1]
