The Court of Appeal in Putrajaya on May 4 raised Rosmaini Abd Raof's jail term from 10 years to the maximum 14 years for abusing his pregnant wife, Jahidah Nordin, and leaving her comatose. [1]
The court also ordered Rosmaini to pay RM25,000 in compensation to Jahidah through a family representative. If he does not pay, he will serve an extra 6 months in jail. [1]
Jahidah was 4 weeks pregnant when she was attacked, court records said. She later gave birth by surgery while still in a coma, and the child has developmental issues. [1]
Judge Noorin Badaruddin said the case showed a brutal attack that destroyed two lives. She said the victim was “alive in name only” while her child suffered developmental issues. Rosmaini was seen smiling as he left the dock after sentencing. [1]
Rosmaini was also on remand in a separate investigation over an alleged assault in late April in Sungai Petani, Kedah, that led to a miscarriage inquiry. [1]
