Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the ministry had planned system, infrastructure and agency preparations to ensure smooth implementation of the new identity documents. He said, "Every period, we have to issue new documents with better security features. We have been working towards that for a long time, and now the time has come. I am highly confident that we will be able to overcome this historic moment well." [1]

The new MyKad and passports will include smart and sophisticated features aimed at improving security and efficiency, according to the ministry. [1]

Saifuddin also said the new citizenship application management system is in its final phase and will be launched soon. [1]
