Malaysia's Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that the National Integrated Immigration System, known as MyNIISe, will be fully implemented in September 2026 [1]. The announcement came during the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya on May 4.
The government plans to introduce enhanced security features for the MyKad identity card starting in June 2026. These upgraded features will also apply to passports, which will be equipped with the latest security technology to safeguard national identity documents [1].
Saifuddin said the Home Ministry has completed the necessary preparations for the MyNIISe launch, including support for submitting citizenship applications under recent amendments to the Federal Constitution [1]. He expressed confidence in the readiness of the National Registration Department and Immigration Department, stating, "I believe the National Registration Department and the Immigration Department are already prepared with their Plan A and Plan B. I am confident we will successfully navigate this historic moment, as the time has come to issue new documents with enhanced security features - something we have been working towards for a long time" [1].
The new system aims to strengthen Malaysia’s national identity framework and improve public service delivery related to immigration and civil registration. Saifuddin also praised the disciplined and well-organized efforts behind the reforms, adding, "I am proud to have a team that is highly disciplined and well-organised in its planning, and we are now nearing the point where all the reforms and changes we have undertaken are coming to fruition and can be felt by the people" [1].
Earlier in January 2026, Saifuddin had stated that Malaysia would roll out new-look passports and MyKad within six months, aligning with the current timeline for launches in June and September [1]. The incremental rollout will allow the government to phase in the new documents and system updates.
Authorities will monitor the system’s implementation closely as the September deadline approaches to ensure a smooth nationwide launch. The June rollout of enhanced MyKad features will mark a significant upgrade to Malaysia’s identity documentation ahead of the MyNIISe system going live.
