Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission investigators have intensified their probe into a RM1.1 billion government agreement with British semiconductor firm Arm Holdings and summoned Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli for questioning on May 4, 2026, at 10am under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. [1]

The case began after NGOs complained that the deal was rushed and may have favoured the government in ways that could carry financial implications. MACC said it has recorded 22 statements since the investigation started on Feb. 13, 2025, including from ministers and senior government officials. [1]

James Chai, an aide to Rafizi, was interviewed for three straight days last week after MACC issued him a travel notice on April 1 and asked him to return from London to assist the inquiry. The agency is also examining possible conflicts of interest, including claims that some people moved into senior roles at Arm Holdings after leaving government ministry posts. [1]

Rafizi said the case could turn into a lengthy and significant trial. “The matter will be a long and interesting trial because many top national leaders will be called as witnesses, including the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and ministers,” he said. [1]

The probe began on Feb. 13, 2025, and was officially opened two days later after the NGO complaints. MACC has not said when the next round of questioning or other steps will take place. [1]
