Kelantan police are investigating false social media posts that used the Royal Malaysia Police logo and the chief's photo to spread unverified claims about the discovery of a 19-year-old woman's body in Kampung Simah, Ketereh. [1]
Police said the victim was found on 2026-05-02 with multiple stab wounds near a paddy field, and initial findings suggest she was killed elsewhere before her body was dumped there. [1]
The force lodged a report after the false information spread online with manipulated PDRM statements and sensational headlines meant to mislead the public. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said, "Among the content detected were the spread of speculation about the suspect’s background, as well as the exploitation of official PDRM statements through manipulation or embellishment." [1]
Four suspects, three men aged 19 to 66 and a 60-year-old woman, have been remanded under Section 302 of the Penal Code as murder investigators continue their probe. [1]
Police said the case is also being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for spreading false or misleading information. Mohd Yusoff urged people not to share unverified material and said, "Cooperation from all parties is greatly appreciated to ensure public order is maintained and that investigations can proceed smoothly and effectively." The police probe remains active as investigators examine both the killing and the false online posts linked to it. [1]
