A video showing Indonesian domestic helpers being physically abused in a private home in Taman Johor, Tampoi, Johor Bahru, Malaysia, went viral last week [1, 2, 3, 4]. Johor police arrested four suspects, two married couples aged between 30 and 34, at the house on June 13, 2026, around 7:30 p.m. [1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 4]. The two female suspects are sisters who live in the same residence with their husbands [1, 3, 5, 4].
The video was recorded by one of the victims and first surfaced on social media the day before the arrests, police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said. He noted the assault captured in the video happened on July 26, 2025, at the house in Taman Johor and said the motive remains under investigation [3, 4]. Some sources disputed the location and timing, claiming it occurred recently at a residence in Taman Daya, but the majority support the July 2025 Taman Johor account [7, 1, 3, 5, 4].
The abuse reportedly involved three Indonesian domestic helpers named YY, SH, and YA who worked for the suspects [2, 6]. The victims suffered physical assault, including one incident after a helper was suspected of injuring her employer’s child [1, 7]. Their passports were confiscated by the employers, which stopped them from reporting the abuse sooner [2, 6, 4]. The victims were abandoned by the suspects in Kampung Melayu Majidee, Johor, before fleeing [2, 6]. Two helpers, YY and SH, are under the Indonesian consulate’s protection in Johor Bahru, while one (YA) is still being located [2, 6].
The Indonesian consulate-general in Johor Baru was notified by victim YY on June 13 and immediately filed a complaint with police. The consulate is providing legal aid and shelter while cooperating with Malaysian authorities on the case [2, 6].
Police have seized mobile phones, clothing, CCTV cameras, and two passports from the suspects’ home for further investigation. The suspects have no prior criminal records or signs of drug abuse [3, 5, 4]. They have been remanded for four days starting June 14 [3, 5].
Authorities are investigating the case under provisions covering assault, criminal intimidation, and violations of the Passports Act [3, 5]. The next hearing for the suspects’ case is scheduled after the remand period ends.
