A trailer driver was remanded for three days on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal three-vehicle crash on East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) near the Chukai Toll Plaza. [1] The collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, near KM290 of LPT2, involving a trailer carrying bricks, a Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck, and a Proton X50 SUV. [1, 2]
The Mitsubishi Triton driver, identified as 54- or 55-year-old Rosli Yusuf, died at the scene. [1, 2] Rosli was traveling with his two daughters, aged either 14 and 23 or 15 and 23, whose injury reports differ by source. One account says they suffered head, neck, face, and eye injuries, while another described their injuries as minor. [1, 2]
According to Kemaman police chief Mohd Razi Rosli, preliminary investigations found the trailer lost control traveling in the left lane and sideswiped the Triton in the right lane before both vehicles hit a highway divider. [2] The vehicles then veered into the opposite lane where the Proton X50 collided with the pickup. [1, 2]
The trailer driver is a 47-year-old man from Permaisuri, Setiu, with no prior record. He tested negative for drugs and was discharged from hospital before his remand begun on May 3. [1] The trailer plunged about three meters into a ravine after the crash. [2]
A passenger in the Proton X50 suffered minor head and neck injuries. [1]
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to examine the exact sequence of events and the causes of the crash.
