Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the ongoing legal dispute over his Discharge Not Amounting to an Acquittal (DNAA) is now being handled between the Bar Council and the Attorney General’s Chambers. He added that his legal team will take charge of the matter in the Court of Appeal and High Court, as the latter’s decision hinges on the former’s ruling [1].
Zahid faces 47 criminal charges linked to breach of trust, corruption, and money laundering involving Yayasan Akalbudi funds. On September 4, 2023, the High Court granted him a DNAA for all 47 charges after the Attorney General’s Chambers indicated its intent to discontinue proceedings [1].
The Bar Council challenged the Attorney General’s decision by filing an application on December 2, 2023, seeking to quash the DNAA [1]. On January 8, 2026, the Attorney General’s Chambers formally classified the case as "no further action", effectively closing the prosecution [1].
Zahid commented, "On legal matters, they are still being discussed by the Bar Council following the issuance of DNAA and the subsequent decision of no further action. So, that is a matter between the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Bar Council. This matter will be handled directly by my legal team to resolve the issue in the Court of Appeal as well as the High Court. This is because the High Court’s decision will depend on the outcome of the Court of Appeal" [1].
The dispute now rests with legal representatives as the Court of Appeal prepares to rule, which will shape the High Court's stance on the case [1].
