Former minister Nik Nazmi’s defamation suit against Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, was settled by consent judgment at the High Court on May 4, 2026, after Chegubard made a public apology in court. [1]

Chegubard said he acknowledged the allegations against Nik Nazmi were false and baseless, withdrew them and apologised for the embarrassment, hardship and inconvenience caused. [1]

The case stemmed from corruption allegations linked to flood mitigation projects. Nik Nazmi rejected Chegubard’s claim that the projects had escalated to RM16.6 billion, saying the Finance Ministry approved RM11.8 billion for 33 projects. [1]

Under the court order, Chegubard must post an apology video on social media within 24 hours, remove the offending posts and stop making similar allegations again. [1]

Nik Nazmi filed the suit in January 2024, and the settlement on May 4 closed the case in the High Court. [1]
